INTER-MODAL CUSTOMER
The Challenge:
Inter-Modal customer requests NEP to make a casting from a fabrication that has 12 separate welded components.
The Solution:
NEP designed a casting from the fabricated sample, suggesting low carbon steel. At a cost of $500 for a pattern, NEP provides an approved sample from the lost wax investment casting process in 45 days from receipt of the order. The casting was machined with dimensions having tolerances of +/- .003".
The Bottom Line:
The customer claimed that the cost of $9.00 for the machined steel castings saved them over $90 per piece when compared to their cost of the fabricated and machined part.
DUMP BODY MANUFACTURER
The Challenge:
Dump body manufacturer had assemblies that were entirely fabrications.
The Solution:
NEP stepped in and designed a casting from a fabrication. NEP provided the customer drawings of the casting design with a stronger material and established tighter tolerances and a superior product to their previous fabrication. As a casting, the customer has a product with their part number and company name cast onto the piece.
The Bottom Line:
Within a few short years there are now 100 similar conversions to castings in production. The customer has eliminated the need for several welders. He reported recently his margins and profits are improved over 5% from the prior year which he has attributed to the conversion to NEP castings. He is grateful because the NEP castings are far more aesthetically attractive and the quality of the cast parts are far superior to his previous fabrications.
